    単層カーボンナノチューブ(SWNTs)は近赤外域に発光を生じることから,光通信の光源やバイオイメージングにおける発光材料としての利用が期待されている.しかし,発光の量子収率が1%程度と低いことが課題とされてきた.最近の研究では,化学修飾率を制御して適切な化学修飾を施すことで,局所的にSWNTsのバンド構造を変えて効率の高い近赤外発光を発現できることが見いだされた.化学修飾の方法,反応試薬の種類,化学修飾率によって,発光波長や強度が制御できることもわかってきた.化学修飾により,発光波長や発光効率を制御した機能性SWNTsの近赤外発光材料としての活用が期待される.
